Festival Season: Where ABQ Shines

There's something about fall in New Mexico that feels both ancient and electric. From art and film to wine and harvest season, Albuquerque's fall festivals are a great way to experience culture, flavor, and community.

1. Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

From October 4 through 12, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta transforms Balloon Fiesta Park into a sunrise kaleidoscope. More than 500 balloons lift off each morning, followed by live music, chainsaw carving contests, and twilight "Balloon Glows." It's one of the largest ballooning events in the world and the perfect kickoff to fall in the high desert.

2. Dia de Los Muertos in Old Town Albuquerque

In late October and early November, Old Town comes alive for Dia de los Muertos. Altars, live music, dance performances, and a candlelit procession make this one of Albuquerque's most colorful and cherished fall traditions, blending art and remembrance in a community-wide celebration.

3. Way OUT West Film Fest

Art lovers in Albuquerque for the fall should not miss out on the Way OUT West Film Fest, from October 10th to 19th, across downtown Albuquerque. Now in its 23rd iteration, the festival features independent films, filmmaker Q&A sessions, and community events, showing that fall in this city is as creative as it is colorful.
